The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for the arrest of the state’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Women Leader, Hajiya Rabi Madawaki, over alleged inciting and violent remarks aimed at opposition supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued Monday by APC Publicity Secretary Malam Yusuf Idris, the party accused Madawaki of issuing threats during a recent political gathering in Gusau, allegedly in the presence of the state governor’s wife, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda.
“Elections in a democratic society should be free, fair, and peaceful,” the statement said. “Unfortunately, rather than campaigning with ideas or promises, Hajiya Rabi Madawaki chose threats and intimidation.”
According to the APC, Madawaki allegedly said in Hausa: “Zamuci ubanshi, zamu yi masa duka”—translated as “Anyone who does not vote for Dauda, we will maim, beat him”—a statement she reportedly repeated multiple times.
Idris questioned the silence of the state government on the matter, emphasising that Madawaki holds no official position and suggesting her comments may reflect deeper political intentions within the ruling PDP.
“If such utterances can be made publicly by a party official, one can only imagine what is being discussed behind closed doors in preparation for the 2027 elections,” the APC said.
Describing her remarks as “uncultured” and “dangerous to democracy,” the APC urged security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services (DSS), to arrest Madawaki immediately.
“She is not protected by any form of immunity. Her threats must not be overlooked,” the statement stressed.
The party further argued that such rhetoric undermines Nigeria’s democratic progress and contradicts President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to foster political inclusivity.
“Nigerians are striving to remove threats and violence from politics. President Tinubu is leading by example, focusing on persuasion and unity as the 2027 elections approach,” Idris added.
