Two staff members of the Damboa Local Education Authority (LEA), identified as Blessings Luka and Gideon Bitterleaf, lost their lives on Monday in a bomb explosion along the Damboa–Maiduguri highway.
According to sources who spoke with Zagazola Makama, the victims were traveling from Damboa to Maiduguri when their Toyota Hiace van, loaded with mangoes, struck an improvised explosive device (IED) suspected to have been planted by insurgents.
Eyewitnesses reported that Luka and Bitterleaf were seated in the front of the van when the explosion occurred, killing them instantly and leaving several others injured.
A source from the Damboa Local Government Area confirmed the identities of the deceased, describing them as dedicated and hardworking education officials.
Security operatives have since cordoned off the area, while investigations are underway to identify those responsible for the attack.
