The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspected child kidnapper in Ilorin, the state capital.

In a statement released on Sunday, the spokesperson for the command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed that the suspect, an unidentified adult male, was apprehended around 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025, during a routine patrol by a joint team of police operatives and community vigilantes.

According to the statement, the suspect, who claimed to be from Osun State, was rescued from an angry mob that accused him of attempting to kidnap a child. The mob was reportedly on the verge of executing jungle justice before law enforcement intervened.

The police spokesperson noted that the suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing to determine the validity of the allegations and identify any possible accomplices.

“The complainant(s) involved are yet to report to the command headquarters to provide further information that could assist police detectives in unraveling the incident. Updates will be shared as the investigation progresses,” the statement read.

The Kwara State Police Command also warned against mob action and jungle justice, stressing that such acts are unlawful and could lead to miscarriages of justice. It urged the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station instead of resorting to violence.

Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that justice is served lawfully.
