A police operation in Minna, Niger State, turned violent on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, when a suspect armed with a knife and cutlass launched an attack on officers responding to a distress call.

The incident occurred in the Anguwan-Daji community of Chanchaga Local Government Area, where operatives from the Central Police Division attempted to arrest one Bello Mai-danger. According to the Niger State Police Command, the suspect resisted arrest, assaulting the officers in an effort to free another detainee.

In a statement released on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that one officer sustained injuries during the confrontation. The situation reportedly escalated, leading to the suspect being neutralised. A second suspect was successfully apprehended.

SP Abiodun emphasized that the use of force was necessary to protect both officers and the public, reiterating the police’s commitment to maintaining safety and order. He also called on citizens to support law enforcement efforts by providing credible information on criminal activities.

The police spokesman assured residents that the command remains dedicated to upholding law and order across Niger State.
