Police Arrest Notorious Kidnapper, Rescue 75-Year-Old Victim In Kano

The Kano State Police Command has achieved a major breakthrough in its fight against violent crimes with the arrest of a suspected kidnapper and the rescue of a 75-year-old victim, Abdulrahman Yunusa, a resident of Maigana in Soba Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

Spokesperson for the Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, stated that following credible intelligence, the Commissioner of Police directed a tactical operation led by the Anti-Kidnapping Squad to raid a suspected hideout in Bagau Town, Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State.

During the raid, which took place on May 9, 2025, police apprehended 23-year-old Musa Tukur from Kudan Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Tukur was found guarding the kidnapped victim, who was discovered with his eyes blindfolded and limbs bound.

Kiyawa revealed that the suspect confessed to collaborating with accomplices to abduct Yunusa from his residence on May 3, 2025, around 12:30 p.m., demanding a ransom of twenty million naira (₦20,000,000) for his release.

The elderly victim was swiftly taken to the hospital for treatment, discharged, and reunited with his family.

The news of Yunusa’s rescue sparked celebrations in his hometown of Soba, Kaduna State, as community members thronged the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano, expressing gratitude to the Commissioner of Police and the Command for their efforts.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, lauded the professionalism of the officers involved in the operation and acknowledged the public’s role in providing credible information that contributed to the successful raid.
