A 40-year-old man has reportedly set his house ablaze in Asa Umudim community, Osisioma Local Government Area of Abia State, leading to the death of one of his daughters.
The suspect’s wife and two other children are currently fighting for their lives in a hospital following the horrific incident.
According to local sources, the man—whose identity is yet to be disclosed by authorities—allegedly soaked the house with a flammable substance before setting it on fire. He reportedly accused his wife of infidelity and suspected her of taking phone calls from individuals he believed to be her lovers.
While one of his daughters perished in the blaze, medical personnel are making efforts to save the lives of his wife and the two surviving children.
A community source revealed that enraged villagers attempted to lynch the suspect before police intervened and took him into custody.
The remains of the deceased daughter have been deposited in a morgue.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, stated, “Yes, the police are aware. Investigation is ongoing.”
