The body of Mr. Kehinde Ijebu was discovered floating in the Oyile River at Ibokun, the headquarters of Obokun Local Government Area in Osun State, after he was reported to have drowned.
According to reports, Ijebu had been declared missing by his family since Tuesday, May 6, 2025. Neighbors suspected he might have taken his own life.
Olawale Famuyatan, a resident of the community, told reporters that Ijebu had exhibited signs of depression the week before his disappearance.
“As soon as he went missing, some neighbors believed he might have killed himself. His whereabouts were unknown from Tuesday evening until the next day. His family grew increasingly worried, but neighbors assumed he had wandered off as he sometimes did. It wasn’t until Wednesday that his lifeless body was found floating in the river by passersby, who raised the alarm,” Famuyatan said.
Another source, who requested anonymity, claimed the deceased had shown symptoms of dementia before his death. He added that Ijebu’s body, along with some personal belongings, was buried near the riverbank.
When contacted on Thursday, the Osun State Police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident. He noted that there were no signs of violence on the body, leading the police to believe it was a suicide.
“The incident happened, and there were no marks of violence on his body. The family approached us for the release of the body for burial. We suggested an autopsy, but they objected, insisting on burying him immediately. I can’t confirm where or how he was buried, but the investigation is still ongoing,” Ojelabi said.
