Tension is rising in the Biket area of Osogbo, Osun State, as residents express alarm over the decomposing body of an unidentified man that has remained unattended days after its discovery.
The lifeless body was found opposite Optima Hospital, near Koju Foam, triggering urgent pleas for government intervention to prevent health and environmental risks.
The incident was brought to public attention on Monday through a post by Osogboupdates on its official Facebook page, highlighting residents’ fears over the health implications if the corpse is not swiftly removed.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that emergency responders from the Osun State Ambulance Service (O’Ambulance) arrived at the scene after being notified. However, despite confirming the man was dead, the team reportedly refused to evacuate the body, citing that their services are limited to rescuing the living.
This decision has sparked outrage among community members, who insist that leaving the decomposing body in a residential area poses serious health hazards.
“Leaving a decomposing body in a residential environment is not only inhumane but also dangerous,” one resident said. “We fear there could be an outbreak if this is not addressed quickly.”
Residents are now calling on the Osun State Government, particularly the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Health, to intervene urgently and ensure the body is safely removed.
They lamented that repeated appeals to relevant authorities have so far gone unanswered, deepening frustration and concern within the community.
