The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has thrown its weight behind Comrade Alimi Lekan Idris, a former Chairman of the NANS Lagos State Joint Campus Committee (JCC), who is contesting for the position of Councilor representing Ward E1 (Odogunyan) in Ikorodu North LCDA, ahead of the upcoming local government elections in Lagos State.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the NANS National Public Relations Officer, Comrade Adeyemi Samson Ajasa, the association described Alimi as a shining product of the Nigerian student movement and a symbol of youth-driven leadership.
“His tenure as NANS Lagos Chairman was marked by unwavering dedication to student welfare, community advancement, and impactful activism. He displayed remarkable capacity, courage, and empathy—qualities the people of Odogunyan Ward will greatly benefit from if given the mandate,” the statement read.
NANS praised Alimi’s values of integrity, responsibility, and service, noting that his evolution from student unionism to grassroots politics is both timely and commendable, particularly at a time when communities are seeking tested and visionary young leaders.
The association called on political stakeholders, party leaders, youth groups, community elders, and other influencers to support Alimi’s candidacy, describing him as a credible and competent youth leader with a track record of service.
“Politics is a game of influence and alignment, and it is crucial that individuals like Comrade Alimi—who have earned public trust and proven their commitment—receive full support,” the statement added.
NANS also appealed to residents of Ward E1 and political decision-makers to rally behind Alimi, whose vision, they said, is anchored on progress, equity, and inclusive development.
“We wish Comrade Alimi Lekan Idris the very best and remain confident that his emergence will usher in a new era of purposeful grassroots leadership in Ikorodu North LCDA,” the statement concluded.
