The Kwara State Government has announced the immediate closure of Government High School and Government Day Secondary School, both located in Adeta, Ilorin, due to persistent student unrest.
The decision follows a series of violent clashes, disruptions to academic activities, and damage to school property at the two institutions.
Confirming the closure on Wednesday, the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, said the measure was taken to restore order and guarantee safety.
Dr. Olohungbebe clarified that only students currently sitting for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE) and their teachers would be allowed on the premises during the exam period.
He added that all SSSCE candidates must wear their school identification cards to gain access to the school grounds.
The commissioner urged parents and guardians to keep their children at home, warning that any student caught defying the directive would face arrest by security operatives.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to upholding discipline and ensuring safety in all public schools across the state.
