The Kano State Government has taken steps toward establishing a new polytechnic in Gaya with the inauguration of a 15-member technical committee to oversee the project.

The committee was formally inaugurated by the Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Higher Education, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who urged members to carry out their duties with utmost dedication and professionalism.

“This is a project of immense value to the people of Kano, particularly the Gaya region. It must be handled with seriousness, within the set timeframe, and in line with the terms of reference,” Gwarzo stated during the inauguration.

The development was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor.

According to the statement, the committee is chaired by Dr. Hadi Bala Yahaya, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Higher Education, while Shehu Sani Dauda, Director of Administration and General Services in the same ministry, will serve as secretary.

The committee’s responsibilities include evaluating existing infrastructure at the proposed site, drafting a bill for the institution’s legal establishment, preparing a bill of quantities for additional facilities, and developing both an academic brief and a physical master plan for the polytechnic.

It will also recommend the human and material resources required for the institution’s take-off and may co-opt additional experts as needed.

The committee has been given two weeks from the date of inauguration to submit its report.
