The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced it will release the results of 379,000 candidates who sat for the rescheduled Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on Wednesday.
The resit, held between Friday and Monday, followed widespread technical and human errors during the initial UTME, particularly in Lagos and the South-East, which disrupted candidates’ performance. JAMB admitted lapses in its system and moved swiftly to organise a makeup exam.
Last week, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, publicly took responsibility and emotionally addressed the media, announcing the rescheduled test for affected candidates.
News Bulletin reports that 1,955,069 candidates took the original UTME. Of those, over 1.5 million scored below 200 out of 400, raising questions about the exam’s credibility.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin confirmed that the resit results would be released on Wednesday.
“The results of the candidates who took the rescheduled exam will be released on Wednesday,” he said.
Prof. Oloyede previously disclosed that 379,997 candidates were affected—206,610 in 65 Lagos centres and 173,387 in 92 centres in the South-East. He described the disruptions as “sabotage,” noting that candidates were informed via SMS from Thursday.
Out of nearly two million results processed so far, only 4,756 candidates (0.24%) scored 320 and above. Another 7,658 (0.39%) scored between 300 and 319, bringing the total who scored above 300 to just 12,414 (0.63%).
