An Alhaja, reportedly battling the effects of a stroke, broke down in tears after allegedly being assaulted by her husband, an Islamic cleric, over ₦800.
The incident came to light through a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), showing the woman with visible bruises and swelling on her face—injuries she claimed were inflicted by her husband.
In the video, the Alhaja recounted the events that led to the assault: “At midnight, he wanted to be intimate, but I told him I was tired. Later, I asked him for money for food, but he refused. I opened his bag to check if there was any money and found ₦800. He immediately bent my arm, started beating me, and hit me in the eyes with his head.”
Voices in the background of the video can be heard urging her to leave the marriage, condemning the cleric’s actions and expressing concern over her continued suffering.
