The Lagos State Government has flagged Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Lekki as the areas with the highest crime rates in the state.
Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro, SAN, made this known during a ministerial press briefing in Alausa, Ikeja, to mark the second anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term.
Quoting figures from the Lagos State Criminal Information System (LCIS), Pedro highlighted a troubling concentration of criminal activity in these key commercial and residential zones.
“From January 2024 to May 2025, Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Lekki recorded the highest number of criminal incidents in Lagos State,” he said.
Pedro revealed that LCIS has recorded 74,962 criminal cases and inmates across the state between 2018 and May 2025.
He also expressed concern over the pressure on correctional facilities, noting that prisons in Lagos are currently operating at 106 per cent over capacity, with 9,096 inmates as of May 2025 — far exceeding their intended capacity.
Pedro described LCIS as a game-changer in the state’s criminal justice system, aimed at digitising case management, improving operational efficiency, and enabling data-driven policymaking.
