Former Governor Sule Lamido has hinted that the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, may soon defect back to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Lamido suggested that Ganduje’s return could be imminent due to anticipated divisions within the APC. He made this assertion while addressing party members during the PDP congress held at the Aminu Kano Triangle in Jigawa State.
The PDP stalwart’s comments come amidst a wave of defections from the PDP to the APC, led by prominent figures including former Delta State Governor and ex-presidential running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa. Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori also switched allegiances, bringing with him the state’s lawmakers.
Despite the recent losses, Lamido urged PDP members not to be disheartened, attributing the defections to political intimidation and harassment. He expressed optimism that many who left the party would soon return, including Ganduje.
“I’m confident that all those who left the PDP will return, including Ganduje, because very soon, the APC will burst and split into factions, having accommodated people with different mindsets,” Lamido declared.
He added, “I said it, and I repeat: within six months, all those who defected to the APC will come back, and the PDP will rise with full force to wrest power in 2027.”
Lamido also used the opportunity to criticize the ruling party’s governance, arguing that Nigeria’s challenges are rooted in poor leadership rather than a lack of resources. “Nigeria is blessed, but the leaders are always the problem,” he remarked.
He further cautioned the government against intimidating opposition voices, warning that such tactics could destabilize the nation. Lamido’s statements have sparked conversations on potential political shifts ahead of the 2027 elections, as the PDP seeks to regain its footing amid internal and external challenges.
