Prof. Sonni Gwanle Tyoden, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Plateau State, has died at the age of 74.
The news of his passing was confirmed on Sunday in Jos by former Governor Simon Lalong, who paid a condolence visit to the late Tyoden’s residence.
Lalong described Tyoden as a trusted political ally, mentor, and confidante, praising his role in the administration’s success during their eight years in office.
“He brought significant stability, wisdom, and experience to our government,” Lalong said. “He worked tirelessly to ensure that we had a successful eight-year tenure.”
Tyoden, a professor of political science, previously served as Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos. He reportedly died after a brief illness.
