The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has called on the three Osun State senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to back their recent endorsement of President Bola Tinubu with action by formally joining the APC.
Speaking through a statement issued by the Senator Ajibola Basiru Campaign Organisation (SABCO) and signed by Remi Ajala, Basiru praised the senators for what he described as a rare show of integrity, likening their endorsement to the Yoruba concept of Omoluabi—a person of honour and principle.
Senators Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), Lere Oyewumi (Osun West), and Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central) had recently declared President Tinubu as their sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election, citing his achievements in infrastructure, economic reform, food security, and national security.
Basiru, a frontrunner in the 2026 Osun governorship race, said the endorsement validated the progress made under Tinubu’s leadership but urged the lawmakers to go beyond words.
“Commending the President from a distance is not enough,” the statement read. “If they truly believe in his vision, they must align fully with the APC at the state and national levels.”
He stressed that defection would demonstrate sincere commitment and help Osun State benefit more from the Renewed Hope Agenda, especially in key sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, education, and healthcare.
The statement also took a swipe at the PDP-led state government, accusing it of underperformance and deception.
Basiru concluded by encouraging the senators to emulate other National Assembly members who have defected to the APC, stating, “This is a defining moment for Osun. The people deserve leaders who don’t just talk about change, but are bold enough to be part of it.”
