A tragic incident has emerged online involving a young boy who accidentally shot his sister while playing with their father’s hunting gun, sparking widespread outrage and concern.
The story was shared by a police officer identified as @Brightgoldenboy on X (formerly Twitter), who clarified that his post was not intended to target any religion, ethnic group, or gender but to serve as a warning about firearm safety.
According to the officer, the father—a hunter—carelessly left his long-range single-barrel gun within the children’s reach. The boy, who had reportedly played with the weapon multiple times before, accidentally discharged it during one of his play sessions, fatally wounding his sister.
In the accompanying video, the officer stated, “This long-range single-barrel gun belongs to the father of one of the suspects. The father is the suspect because his carelessness is the reason we’re here today.”
He added that the boy admitted to frequently handling the weapon. “One fateful day, he was playing with the gun, it went off, and killed his own sister—the daughter of the gun’s owner.”
When questioned, the father revealed that the gun was inherited from his own father and primarily used for hunting. He claimed he was unaware that his son had access to it. “The gun na my father gun, na hunt I dey use am dey do,” he explained.
The boy, in the video, shared his age and spoke briefly about the incident.
