No fewer than 300 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kawo Ward, Kaduna North Local Government Area, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Receiving the new members, a permanent member of the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Jamilu Haruna, described the mass defection as a vote of confidence in Governor Uba Sani’s administration.
Haruna said the governor had, in less than two years, made significant strides in areas such as infrastructure, agriculture, and rural development.
“This defection is not surprising. Even opposition members acknowledge Governor Uba Sani’s achievements in security, education, food security, and citizens’ welfare,” Haruna said, adding that the governor’s performance had bolstered his relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and positioned the state for greater federal support.
Haruna assured the new members of full integration into the APC and commended the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Sani Liman Kila, for facilitating the event.
Also speaking at the event, the APC chairman in Kaduna North, Alhaji Suleiman Wada Usman, welcomed the defectors on behalf of the governor, praising their decision to join the ruling party.
“You are now part of a party that prioritises the development of Kaduna State. You will be treated fairly and equally—there are no second-class members here,” Usman said.
Leader of the defectors, Professor Usman Muhammad, a former PDP senatorial aspirant for Kaduna Central, said he led 225 PDP members into the APC due to their confidence in Governor Sani’s inclusive governance.
He criticised the PDP for marginalising experienced members like himself, despite their qualifications and contributions to the party.
