Wike’s Ex-Deputy, Three Lawmakers Absent As Rivers NASS Caucus Meets Sole Administrator Ibas

The immediate past deputy governor of Rivers State and current Senator representing Rivers West senatorial district, Senator Ipalibo Harry-Banigo, was notably absent alongside three other federal lawmakers when members of the Rivers State caucus in the National Assembly visited the State’s Sole Administrator, Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Thursday.

Also absent were Hon. Awaji Inombek Abiante (Opobo/Nkoro/Andoni Federal Constituency), Hon. Allison Anderson (Okrika/Ogu-Bolo Federal Constituency), and Hon. Boma Goodhead (Akuku-Toru Federal Constituency).

During the meeting, Vice Admiral Ibas (rtd.) addressed the lawmakers, emphasizing that the State’s 2025 Appropriation Bill was being carefully structured to address critical areas, including healthcare, education, agriculture, and infrastructure. He also assured that the proposed budget would prioritize job creation and technological advancements in key public sectors.

Since assuming office, Ibas stated that his primary focus has been restoring law and order in the state. With the cooperation of security agencies, he said efforts are being made to create a safe and conducive environment where residents feel secure and valued.

“Our commitment is to make Rivers a model of peace among states, with a stable economy where citizens can pursue their livelihoods without fear or intimidation,” Ibas said.

Highlighting the urgency of the state’s budget process, he remarked: “Following the Supreme Court ruling on the state’s budget, we swiftly initiated a new budget framework reflecting our dedication to healthcare, education, social services, and infrastructure. We have ensured a transparent and inclusive process to expedite necessary investments for the benefit of our citizens.”

Ibas stressed that the support of Rivers lawmakers in the National Assembly would be crucial to securing legislative backing and necessary resources for the state’s development initiatives.

“Your partnership is critical in ensuring that Rivers State remains on a progressive path with lasting peace for future generations,” he stated.

He acknowledged the challenges that led to the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu and reiterated his administration’s commitment to reconciliation through dialogue and community engagement.

In his remarks, Senator Barinada Mpigi (Rivers South-East District) reaffirmed the lawmakers’ dedication to representing Rivers people effectively at the National Assembly. He commended Ibas for his efforts so far and pledged the support of the federal legislators to restore stability and development in the state.

“We are committed to supporting initiatives that will bring lasting development and peace to Rivers State,” Senator Mpigi assured.

The meeting underscored the ongoing efforts to stabilize Rivers State and reinforce cooperation between the state’s administration and its representatives in the National Assembly.
