Controversial social activist, VeryDarkMan, has pledged to finance a new music video for Eedris Abdulkareem’s latest protest song, Tell Your Papa, which was recently banned by Nigeria’s National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
According to a report by DAILY POST, the NBC prohibited the song on Thursday, labeling it “inappropriate and offensive.” The move has ironically drawn widespread attention to the track, which had previously flown under the radar.
In response to the ban, VeryDarkMan took to social media to condemn the federal government’s actions. He argued that the song merely reflects the harsh realities Nigerians are facing, including economic hardship and insecurity.
“I checked Eedris Abdulkareem’s page and saw the message from NBC banning his song, Tell Your Papa, where he asked Seyi Tinubu to tell his father, President Bola Tinubu, that Nigerians are suffering and people are dying,” he said in a video posted online. “The government doesn’t want that message aired because they know it’s true.”
Dismissing the influence of traditional media, he emphasized the power of social media as a tool for mass communication. “Who even listens to radio or watches TV these days? We’ll take this to social media where they can’t control it.”
He then revealed plans to produce a new version of the video: “Dear Eedris Abdulkareem, we’re going to shoot another video — we’ll fund it, and I’ll be in it. Since we can’t get the President himself, we’ll find a lookalike. It’ll be Tell Your Papa 2, and we’ll use it to highlight even more issues.”
VeryDarkMan concluded by accusing the government of attempting to silence dissent through media censorship. “They hear the cries of Nigerians but refuse to act. And when you speak out, they want to shut you down — to keep your voice from reaching beyond their control.”
