The lingering tussle over control of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State has taken another dramatic turn, as the gates of the facility were once again locked—this time with chains and padlocks.
Recall that the secretariat had initially been sealed off ahead of a stakeholders’ meeting organized by Offa LG Lawmakers at the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. AbdulWaheed Gbenga Yusuf (Essa/Shawo/Igboidun) and Hon. Ogunniyi Seun Ogunniyi (Ojomu/Balogun), forcing them to relocate their gathering to the Offa Descendants Union (ODU) Hall in a widely praised display of political maturity.
According to a source familiar with the latest development, the gates of the APC Secretariat had been reopened about three days ago, restoring access to the facility.
However, in a surprising twist, the source revealed that the entrance was found locked again on Saturday afternoon, this time secured with chains and keys.
“It was opened three days ago and I’m surprised to see the gates being locked again today with chains when I got to my place of work this afternoon,” the source said.
When inquiries were made among residents and nearby workers, the source added, it was alleged that the latest act was carried out by members of the political team previously locked out of the premises.
“When I asked people around, they said the opposing political team was the one behind it this time around. They said it’s those people who came the other day, that were locked outside, that now put chains and keys on the gates,” the source explained.
The recurring closure of the APC Secretariat has heightened tensions within Offa APC ranks, signaling deepening divisions among factions loyal to different political camps within the party.
Observers fear that if not swiftly addressed, the situation could threaten the fragile unity recently reinforced during the relocated stakeholders’ meeting, where calls for internal discipline, dialogue, and party cohesion were strongly emphasized.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Kwara State APC leadership or the Offa APC executives regarding the re-locking of the Secretariat gates.
