Two petrol tankers loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) caught fire on Wednesday along the Ibadan-Ile-Ife Expressway in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The incident, which occurred around 9:00 a.m. opposite Current Foam on the expressway, was triggered when a tanker carrying 45,000 litres of PMS lost control, veered off the road, and plunged into a nearby ditch before bursting into flames. The blaze subsequently spread to a second tanker nearby.
Confirming the incident, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, said firefighters were promptly deployed to the scene following a distress call at exactly 9:29 a.m.
“Upon arrival, our team, led by ACFS Adesina Olusoji, found two trailer tankers engulfed in flames,” Akinyinka said in a statement issued on Thursday. “We quickly swung into action and were able to bring the fire under control before it could cause further damage.”
He also acknowledged the support of security agencies who were on ground to provide security during the firefighting operation.
