Residents of the University community in Umudike, Umuahia, were thrown into shock on Thursday following the discovery of a young man, Chukwuka Nwosu, hanging lifelessly from a tree in front of a residential building.
Chukwuka, a native of Itaja Obuohia in Olokoro, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, is believed to have taken his own life. His Toyota Corolla was reportedly parked nearby, suggesting he may have driven to the location with the intent to carry out the act.
The incident has left the community in disbelief, especially those who knew the deceased. Many have called for a thorough investigation, citing the absence of any visible signs of distress or known personal struggles. Sources described Chukwuka as a graduate from a well-off family background.
As of press time, neither the Abia State Government nor the Police had issued an official statement concerning the incident.
A local source confirmed to that the Police had visited the scene, after which traditional rites were observed by villagers before the body was moved to the mortuary.
