A security guard was reportedly killed late Friday night in an attack by suspected herdsmen at the Otobi Dam, located in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The incident marks yet another violent episode in a series of deadly attacks that have plagued the Otukpo axis in recent weeks.

Confirming the attack, Hon. Angbo Kennedy, who represents Otukpo/Akpa State Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly, called for urgent intervention to halt the escalating violence.

“This is becoming too much. A guard was killed this evening at the Otobi Dam by herdsmen. Please, let’s watch out for one another. We may have to resort to self-help,” Kennedy said in a statement.

As of the time of filing this report, the identity of the slain guard had not been disclosed, and no arrests had been made.

Residents are now urging the Benue State Government and security agencies to step up surveillance and deploy additional personnel to vulnerable rural communities, especially near key infrastructure like the Otobi Dam.

This latest killing follows a string of attacks in nearby communities such as Okpomaju, Okete, and Asa, where several residents were killed and others displaced earlier this year.

In a related incident just a day earlier, armed men hijacked a Benue Links bus, killing two passengers and kidnapping 13 others, further heightening fears across the region.
