Residents of Olena in Asa community, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, have abandoned their homes following a wave of attacks by suspected herdsmen.
Reports indicate that the community has been under siege for the past four days, with multiple casualties and several abductions.
A resident who spoke with our reporter described the dire situation, revealing that villagers were forced to flee on Monday night after realizing that no assistance was forthcoming.
“I am currently in Upu. My family and I managed to escape tonight. At this point, the entire community has been deserted. Olena has been under relentless attack for days.
“They have killed and kidnapped several people. Despite our cries for help, no security personnel have come to our aid. I barely survived, escaping with my family,” he recounted.
Video footage obtained by our reporter shows residents evacuating their homes under the cover of darkness on Monday night as the attacks persisted.
