A fire outbreak triggered by a petrol tanker explosion on Saturday has destroyed several cars, motorcycles, computer sets, and other valuables worth millions of naira in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

 

The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. along Lead City University Road, near the Ibadan Toll Gate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

 

According to reports, the tanker, which was conveying premium motor spirit (PMS), caught fire, engulfing vehicles and motorcycles parked nearby. Several shops along the road were also affected by the inferno.

 

Fortunately, the tanker driver and his assistant managed to escape unhurt.

 

Security operatives have since been deployed to the area to maintain order and prevent looting.

 

Confirming the incident, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, told NEWS BULLETIN, “Yes. It is true. Our men have been mobilised to the scene of the incident.”
