Excellency Mayowa Amotekun I, a well-known social media critic and former media aide to the late PDP National Vice Chairman (South-West), Olasoji Adagunodo, has filed a lawsuit seeking ₦11 million in damages against popular cultural promoter, Fasakin Rukayat Mewolaka, alongside the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Zone 11, over allegations of intimidation and threats to his life.
Amotekun disclosed that the issue began when some individuals took a screenshot of his controversial social media post referring to Mewolaka as the “SSA on Dicks Management and Bed Related Issues” and forwarded it to her.
This incident reportedly coincided with Mewolaka’s unresolved conflict with Taiwo Olaore, escalating tensions between the parties.
According to Amotekun, while he was sitting for his second-semester examination at the University of Ibadan, he received a missed call from a man who later introduced himself as Supor Femi from Zone 11 police headquarters.
The caller informed him of a petition against him allegedly filed by the Osun State Government. Amotekun, initially perplexed by the situation, responded that he was not available at the time.
Upon returning home, he contacted the officer, who instructed him to appear at Zone 11 on Monday without an official police invitation.
The social critic, however, requested that the invitation be delivered to a retired DSS officer, Mr. Akin Adeyi, in Osogbo.
Three days later, Amotekun received a WhatsApp message from the same officer, now officially forwarding the police invitation.
However, he noticed that the number listed on the document was incorrect, having been lifted from his Facebook profile. Upon inquiring about the discrepancy, Supor Femi assured him that the matter was specifically directed at him.
Still uncertain about the exact nature of the accusations, Amotekun later saw Mewolaka’s petition circulating on social media, confirming her involvement in the case. Events took a more dramatic turn when he learned that Mewolaka had visited Zone 11 headquarters, accompanied by seven Special Advisers (SAs) to Governor Ademola Adeleke, allegedly on the orders of the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi. Reports indicated that they arrived in a coastal bus belonging to the Ministry of Information.
Amotekun, who suffers from ulcer complications, claimed that the stress of the situation triggered a health crisis, leading to his hospitalization.
Upon his recovery, he was confronted with multiple messages from Supor Femi, questioning why he failed to honor the invitation. He responded with details of his medical emergency, even providing pictures of prescribed medications as evidence.
The controversy deepened when a message circulated in a WhatsApp group warning that Supor Femi was allegedly threatening to track him down in Ibadan.
Following legal advice, Amotekun proceeded to sue Mewolaka, the IGP, and the AIG of Zone 11 for intimidation and threats to his life, seeking damages amounting to five million naira (₦5M) and six million naira (₦6M) respectively.
This case is expected to generate significant public interest, especially within political and media circles, as concerns about press freedom and alleged abuse of law enforcement agencies continue to mount. More updates will follow as the case unfolds.
