The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) on Sunday gathered in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, to celebrate a landmark legal victory which reaffirmed the party’s authentic leadership under Dr. Major Agbo and the Board Chairman, Dr. Bode Philip Ekechukwu.
The jubilant event followed the recent dismissal of a lawsuit by a faction loyal to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, which had sought to challenge the authority of the NNPP’s leadership.
The Abuja High Court ruled that internal party disputes—particularly those unrelated to the nomination of candidates—are not within the court’s jurisdiction.
Speaking at the gathering, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulsalam, the NNPP National Publicity Secretary, praised the judiciary for upholding the truth and reinforcing the party’s constitutional structure.
“Today, we are in Kwara to celebrate the court judgment in favor of our leader, Dr. Major Agbo.”
“The case brought by a faceless group was found to lack legal standing. The NNPP, under Dr. Agbo and Dr. Ekechukwu, remains the only legitimate leadership, and our party logo—the iconic basket of fruits—remains unchanged and untouchable.”
He further called on Nigerians to be wary of impersonators and political opportunists attempting to hijack the NNPP’s identity.
“Let it be clear: the only NNPP in Nigeria today is the one celebrating its 23rd anniversary—the party with a basket of fruits as its logo. Any other group claiming to represent us is acting outside the bounds of legality and integrity.”
Addressing the gathering, Alhaji Lamidi Isiaka, the Kwara State Chairman of the NNPP, recounted the internal challenges the party had faced since welcoming Kwankwaso into its fold.
“It was Dr. Boniface who dissolved all existing party structures to enable Kwankwaso to contest for president. But after the election, which he lost, he tried to change our party’s logo and leadership. That’s why we went to court—and we have now emerged victorious.”
He emphasized that the NNPP remains a longstanding political party—not a temporary forum—and denounced any attempts to rebrand the party with a “red flag” logo.
Mrs. Bolarinwa Temitope, the party’s Kwara State Women Leader, expressed gratitude for the return of peace and order within the NNPP.
“NNPP is now back to normal and united. I urge all women and members to continue supporting this party. It is a glorious platform that stands for national progress.”
The party leadership also reiterated that suspended members, including Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and Buba Galadima, may reapply for membership through proper channels at the ward level.
According to Abdulrahman Abdulsalam, re-admission would only be granted to individuals free from misconduct.
The celebration in Ilorin marks a significant turning point for the NNPP, which is now poised to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party leaders used the occasion to call for unity, loyalty, and grassroots mobilization across the country.
