The Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has issued a directive banning the broadcast of Eedris Abdulkareem’s latest single, “Seyi, Tell Your Papa”, across all radio and television stations in the country.
According to a letter circulated to media houses nationwide, the NBC instructed broadcasters to refrain from airing the song—an act widely seen as an attempt to shield the government from criticism.
Eedris Abdulkareem Reacts:
“In Nigeria, speaking the truth and offering constructive criticism is treated as a crime. This current administration, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is now cementing its place in history as one of the most insensitive, vindictive, and malicious governments to ever lead this nation.
Less than two years into his tenure, and the signs are alarming—from the economy to security, the decline is obvious to all Nigerians, regardless of religion, tribe, or political leaning. Except, of course, for the few ‘happy slaves’ scrambling for crumbs from their masters’ tables.
This isn’t new to me. The same thing happened 21 years ago when the Obasanjo government banned my song ‘Jaga Jaga’.
And we wonder why Nigeria hasn’t progressed meaningfully since then?
