A man reportedly divorced his wife at a police station shortly after she was arrested during a security raid on a hotel suspected to be a hideout for criminal elements.

Security operatives had stormed several hotels in Minna as part of a clampdown on suspected sara-suka gang members and drug dealers. The operation, which followed a directive from the Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, led to the arrest of several individuals, including women.

Speaking to NEWS BULLETIN on the condition of anonymity, a security official said the woman’s marital status only came to light after she was brought to the station and relatives of those arrested were contacted.

“Due to the recurring cases of youth restiveness and attacks on innocent residents, the Deputy Governor recently visited various parts of Minna and ordered a crackdown on those responsible for the unrest,” the source explained.

“During the operation, many suspects were apprehended. To our surprise, a man arrived at the station, identified one of the women as his wife, and immediately pronounced a triple divorce.”

According to the source, investigators had not yet begun interrogating the suspects when the husband made the declaration. The circumstances of the woman’s presence at the hotel remain unclear.
