A man identified as Jeremiah Kosesochi Nwoke has reportedly died while trying to steal the Agemo statue at Itoro Roundabout in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
According to eyewitnesses and local sources, the incident occurred during the night when the suspect allegedly made repeated attempts to uproot the symbolic statue located near the ultramodern palace of the Awujale of Ijebuland.
Despite managing to dislodge the heavily secured structure, the man reportedly died in the process of moving it.
The bizarre incident has left many residents stunned, especially given the cultural and spiritual significance of the Agemo figure in Ijebu tradition.
