The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has pegged the total cost for chairmanship aspirants in the upcoming July 12 local government elections at N5.5 million.
This includes a N5 million nomination fee and a N500,000 administrative charge, as outlined in the party’s election guidelines signed by APC State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, and Secretary, Dr Adeola Jokomba.
Female aspirants will pay half the nomination fee—N2.5 million—while still paying the full N500,000 administrative charge.
A 50 percent discount on the nomination fee is granted to aspirants under the age of 40, although the administrative fee remains unchanged. Persons with disabilities are exempted from paying the nomination fee but will pay a reduced administrative fee of N250,000.
For councillorship positions, male aspirants are required to pay N1 million for nomination and N100,000 for administration. Female aspirants will pay N250,000 for nomination and N100,000 as administrative fee.
Young aspirants under 40 years old are also entitled to a 50 percent discount on the councillorship nomination fee, while administrative fees remain constant. Persons with disabilities will collect nomination forms free of charge and pay a reduced administrative fee of N50,000.
“There shall not be a separate fee for Vice Chairman,” the party stated, adding that all payments must be made via bank draft payable to the All Progressives Congress, Lagos State.
To qualify, chairmanship aspirants must present endorsement from five registered party members who are voters in their ward, local government or LCDA. Councillorship hopefuls are required to submit endorsements from 20 registered voters in their respective wards.
Candidates must be Nigerian citizens and meet the constitutional qualifications for public office. A minimum of a school certificate or its equivalent is required, with higher qualifications considered an advantage.
Minimum age for chairmanship candidates is 30, while councillorship hopefuls must be at least 25 years old. All aspirants must show evidence of party membership, active support, and loyalty to the APC. They are also required to sign the party’s Code of Conduct.
Only those cleared by the Screening Committee will be eligible to participate in the party’s primaries.
The party also emphasized that any current officeholder seeking to contest must resign at least 30 days before the primaries or the general election.
All aspirants must comply with constitutional provisions relevant to the offices they are seeking.
