Residents of Lagos took to the streets recently to protest against soaring housing costs and the exorbitant fees charged by property agents.
The demonstration, which was captured in a video shared on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), showed a car packed with protesters moving through a busy area of Lagos. Attached to the front of the vehicle was a poster that read: “Enough is enough. We say no to overpriced house rents. We say no to housing agents. Agents of darkness.”
The protest drew widespread attention online, with many users taking to the comment section to express their support and frustration over the housing situation.
One user, @amos_bakare, wrote: “We need to take this seriously because any young fellow trying to live will face these evil people.” Another, @history_square, added: “Such protests are long overdue. They should also engage the appropriate government agencies.”
However, some observers noted a lighter tone to the protest. “They are mixing protest with pleasure – with good music,” @history_square commented.
The video of the protest has since gone viral, fueling ongoing discussions about the urgent need for housing reforms in Lagos.
