Lagos-Commercial-High-Court

The Lagos State Government has formally unveiled the newly constructed Commercial Division of the High Court, situated at Tapa on Lagos Island.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the court is expected to serve as a strategic institution for enforcing fiscal and regulatory responsibilities while enhancing access to justice for commercial stakeholders.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the court as a transformative addition to the state’s judicial infrastructure, equipped with cutting-edge technology to expedite the resolution of business disputes and remove economic bottlenecks.

“This new court represents a significant milestone in our efforts to foster economic growth through swift and fair adjudication of commercial cases,” the governor said. “It marks a new era in the delivery of justice, where cases can be resolved within months rather than years.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the Attorney General of the state, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN), and the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, for their commitment to strengthening the state’s judicial framework.

“Our judicial system stands out in the country due to the intellectual calibre of our judges, a product of our rigorous and merit-based selection process,” he added.

In his remarks, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Pedro, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to leveraging the judiciary as a catalyst for economic development, underpinned by the rule of law.

He noted that the newly established Lagos State Revenue Court, also under the judiciary’s purview, will handle matters related to tax recovery, levies, land use charges, and the prosecution of tax-related offences.

Justice Alogba, Chief Judge of Lagos State, described the new court complex as a vital tool for efficient justice delivery, reinforcing the judiciary’s role in sustaining public confidence and promoting commercial stability.
