The Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle Adio, popularly known as Tafa Sego, has condemned the assault on Miss Yetunde Amole, a female commercial driver, who was reportedly attacked by a street thug in the Ajah area of Lagos.
Speaking at the union’s headquarters in Oko Oba, Agege, where Miss Amole formally lodged a complaint, Adio expressed outrage over the incident and pledged the union’s full support for her in seeking justice.
“The person who assaulted Miss Amole is not a member of our union. He is a known area boy with no ties to the NURTW,” Adio stated.
He commended Miss Amole for her courage in reporting the incident and reiterated the union’s zero tolerance for violence, particularly against hardworking drivers. “No genuine member of this union engages in harassment or misconduct. Our members are expected to uphold discipline and respect at all times,” he said.
Adio also praised the Lagos State Government for its swift action in arresting the suspect and assured that the union would continue collaborating with authorities to ensure the perpetrator is brought to justice.
“We will not rest until Miss Amole gets the justice she deserves. Let this serve as a warning to anyone who attempts to intimidate drivers in this state,” he declared.
He concluded with a stern warning to NURTW members that any form of misconduct would be dealt with decisively, and called on the public to show respect for commercial drivers who face daily risks in the line of duty.
