The Kebbi State Government has announced that it will maintain firm control over the operations of the newly constructed Central Motor Park in Birnin Kebbi, limiting the influence of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
During a media tour of the facility, the State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmad, stated that the park was developed to boost the state’s internally generated revenue and provide employment opportunities.
Constructed at a cost of over N2 billion by a local construction firm, the modern park is part of the state government’s broader infrastructure development strategy.
In a related development, the Commissioner provided updates on the ongoing construction of the new State Secretariat. He revealed that the project was initially awarded in 2012 by former Governor Saidu Dakingari at a cost of N3.7 billion but was later abandoned when it was only 30 to 40 percent complete.
According to Ahmad, the current administration under Governor Nasiru Idris has revived the project, with an additional N1.7 billion allocated to continue and complete the work.
Once completed, the new secretariat will house all 25 state ministries, while agencies and parastatals will operate from the old secretariat complex.
“This will eliminate the need for the state government to spend on renting office space for its agencies,” he said.
