The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate reactivation of the Tinted Glass Permit (TGP) system nationwide through a fully digital platform.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja. He said the initiative was introduced in response to widespread public complaints about police harassment of motorists over the use of tinted vehicle windows.
“The Nigeria Police Force, under the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, has reactivated the issuance of Tinted Glass Permits through a secure and user-friendly digital platform available at possap.gov.ng,” the statement read.
Adejobi noted that with many modern vehicles coming with factory-fitted tinted windows, there is now a need for a standardized, transparent process to regulate their use while safeguarding public security.
The new system integrates identity verification through the National Identification Number (NIN) and Tax Identification Number (TIN), alongside biometric capture and background checks for permit applicants.
To ease the transition, the police have approved a 30-day grace period, effective from May 1, 2025. Motorists are expected to regularize their permits within this window, after which enforcement will commence.
Adejobi also issued a stern warning to police personnel, stating that any officer found extorting or harassing citizens during enforcement will face strict disciplinary action in line with police regulations.
