Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has met with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in a renewed push for reconciliation amid the lingering political crisis in the state.
Sources told News Bulletin that the meeting took place at Wike’s private residence in Abuja, with the embattled governor accompanied by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, his Ebonyi counterpart Francis Nwifuru, and former Ogun Governor Olusegun Osoba.
According to a reliable insider, Fubara, upon arrival, walked directly into Wike’s living room—described as “familiar terrain”—and appealed to the minister for peace.
“There was a meeting and I can confirm that,” the source said, declining to elaborate on whether the development might lead to an end to the state of emergency declared in the state.
The Abuja meeting comes shortly after Fubara’s closed-door session with President Bola Tinubu in London.
The rift between Fubara and Wike began shortly after the former assumed office in 2023. The feud escalated into a full-blown crisis, prompting militant threats to oil installations and forcing President Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State.
In a dramatic turn, the president suspended Fubara, his deputy, and all state lawmakers for six months, appointing a Sole Administrator to oversee governance in the state.
Speaking on the crisis, Wike recently admitted he had pushed for Fubara’s outright removal but was overruled by Tinubu, who opted for a more measured approach.
