A fire outbreak has destroyed properties worth millions of naira after sweeping through twelve shops in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
The incident occurred on Thursday night at Block A, No. 64 Mayegun Cement Store Market, Araromi, Agodi Gate.
According to reports, the fire, which broke out around 11:02 p.m., led to extensive damage, although no lives were lost.
Confirming the incident, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, said fire personnel were promptly deployed to the scene following a distress call.
“Upon arrival, we met several lock-up shops already engulfed in flames. Our team acted swiftly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby shops,” he stated in a release issued Friday.
He disclosed that twelve shops were affected by the blaze, but firefighters were able to save other parts of the market, including properties worth billions of naira.
Akinyinka attributed the cause of the fire to an electrical surge, which ignited flammable materials in the vicinity.
