The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) has appointed Ghana’s Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, as the new Chairman of its Board of Governors.
His appointment was confirmed during the bank’s 23rd Ordinary Session held on April 14 in Banjul, The Gambia. Dr. Forson succeeds Seedy Keita, the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs of The Gambia.
Dr. George Donkor, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of EBID, expressed confidence in Dr. Forson’s leadership, citing his extensive background in macroeconomics, fiscal policy, finance, and business management. He described Forson as an experienced tax expert and chartered accountant with over two decades of experience across both public and private sectors.
Representing the new Chairman at the session, Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Ampem, reaffirmed Dr. Forson’s commitment to steering the bank towards its strategic objectives. He noted that the new Chairman would prioritise resource mobilisation, capital recovery, and the inclusion of non-regional members.
Ampem also pledged Ghana’s continued support in positioning EBID as the leading development finance institution in the West African subregion.
Headquartered in Lomé, Togo, EBID is the financial arm of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), comprising 15 member states. The bank focuses on funding development projects across sectors such as infrastructure, rural development, environment, industry, and social services through both public and private sector windows.
