An Oyo State Magistrate Court sitting in the Orile-Igbon Magisterial District, Ogbomoso, has ordered the remand of fifteen suspects in connection with the violent attack on Aagba village in Surulere Local Government Area.
The suspects, arrested in the aftermath of the April 5 assault, are facing charges including criminal conspiracy, arson, armed robbery, and murder. They have been remanded at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Abolongo, according to a statement by the spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso.
Aagba village was reportedly invaded by armed hoodlums from neighbouring communities, resulting in widespread destruction and loss of life. “During the attack, nine houses were razed, and the entire village was sacked and left desolate,” Osifeso said. “A septuagenarian was also viciously assaulted and later died from the injuries sustained.”
Police investigations led to the arrest of the suspects, identified as Olayiwola Adisa, Shittu Waliu, Ibrahim Shareef, Shittu Ibrahim, Gabriel Aderinto, Oyetunde Kazeem, Bakare Sikiru, Babatunde Raimi, Adewuyi Emmanuel, Aderemi Kunle, Salawudeen Ismail, Jimoh Damilare, Oyebamiji Tunji, Ayankolade Femi, and Ogunleye Taiwo.
Many of the suspects were apprehended in a forest near Ejigbo, where they had reportedly fled in a bid to evade capture. Osifeso noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend others still at large.
The Command warned against acts of self-help and lawlessness, urging citizens to report suspicious activities and remain vigilant.
“We reaffirm our commitment to tackling all forms of violence and maintaining peace across the state,” the statement concluded.
