A tense Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash ended in chaos on Sunday evening as angry Shooting Stars SC (3SC) fans held Ikorodu City FC players and officials hostage following a frustrating goalless draw at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The dramatic scenes unfolded after the Match Day 32 encounter, with enraged home fans reacting violently to their team’s inability to secure a win. According to footage obtained by SaharaReporters, Ikorodu City’s players and staff were trapped inside their dressing room in total darkness, using phone flashlights to navigate after the stadium’s power was reportedly cut.
“This is the first time I’m experiencing something like this,” one visibly shaken Ikorodu City official said in a video, describing how the team was locked in and unable to leave. “The light has been switched off. The players are using their phones. We cannot go out. The team bus has been vandalised.”
Additional videos showed the team’s bus extensively damaged, while reports confirmed that one Ikorodu City official sustained injuries during the chaos. The identity of the injured official was yet to be disclosed at the time of reporting.
Trouble reportedly began immediately after the final whistle. Disappointed by the result, a section of 3SC supporters began throwing objects onto the pitch before escalating their frustration by blocking the visiting team’s exit and targeting their bus.
With limited security presence, the situation spiraled quickly as fans attacked and vandalized property with impunity.
Violence at football matches in Nigeria remains a recurring issue, with stadiums often becoming flashpoints for aggression from fans toward officials, referees, and players alike.
Following the draw, Shooting Stars remain 4th on the NPFL table with 48 points from 32 matches, while Ikorodu City sit just behind with 46 points and a game in hand.
