The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) extends its heartfelt condolences to the members of the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS)—which includes nine dedicated staff and volunteers from both the Branch and National Headquarters—who were tragically involved in a road traffic accident on April 10, 2025, while fulfilling their official duties on the Ilorin–Jebba road in Kwara State.
While we are relieved that no lives were lost, *we are profoundly concerned for those who sustained serious injuries, including fractures to their arms, neck, legs, and pelvis, as well as head and eye injuries and various bruises. Their *sacrifice to serve the public during this incident underscores the need for immediate attention to their care.
In light of this unfortunate event, *CDHR strongly calls upon the Kwara State Government (KWSG) to demonstrate true leadership and compassion by promptly assuming responsibility for the medical expenses of these injured NRCS personnel.* As they were actively *serving the community at the time of the accident, they deserve unwavering support from the government and society they selflessly serve.
We urge the KWSG to take swift action to ensure these first responders receive the best possible medical care for their recovery. Additionally, *we appeal to corporate organizations and affluent individuals within the community to contribute to this critical cause.
*CDHR reaffirms its steadfast dedication to the protection of human rights and the advocacy for the welfare of individuals devoted to public service.
