An Ondo State Chief Magistrates’ Court in Okitipupa has ordered the remand of a businessman, Ogooluwa Monehin, who is accused of piercing another man’s eye with a car key during a dispute.

Chief Magistrate Mr. Olanrewaju Àdelegan issued the remand order on Friday, directing that the 34-year-old be held at the Okitipupa custodial facility pending a review of the case’s facts.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the matter was adjourned until April 16, 2025.

Monehin, whose residential address was not disclosed, pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of assault.

The prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. on February 23, 2025, at Yasere Street in Irele, Ondo State. He alleged that Monehin used a car key to pierce the left eye of the complainant, Mr. Omodoti Odogun, during an argument over a business matter.

Orogbemi added that the act caused Odogun significant pain, injury, and bodily harm.

The charges brought against Monehin are said to contravene Sections 412 and 335 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
