A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayekooto Akindele, has taken a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over their political relevance ahead of the 2027 elections.
Akindele, in a post on social media platform X, claimed that no serving Nigerian governor — including Osun State’s Ademola Adeleke — is willing to support Atiku’s presidential ambition. He went further to mock Atiku, alleging that Governor Adeleke no longer answers his calls during the day.
The APC stalwart was reacting to speculations that some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors may have struck a deal with President Bola Tinubu, leading to fresh divisions within the opposition party.
Citing recent comments by Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, who expressed support for Tinubu’s leadership and predicted his stay in office till 2031, Akindele said the PDP’s internal crisis signals a lack of unity around Atiku’s 2027 bid.
“There’s no Nigerian governor who has declared support for Atiku in 2027,” Akindele wrote. “Even Adeleke no dey pick Atiku’s calls at daytime again.”
He added, “One million Atikus and El-Rufais cannot stop the South and Tinubu from spending eight years in power. When it comes to politics, don’t drag anything with the JAGABAN. No matter how many the chicks, they’ll always follow the Chicken from behind.”
Akindele also hinted that Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, a known Atiku ally, may soon defect to the APC.
