ABUJA — Businesswoman Aisha Achimugu was brought before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in compliance with a court order.

Achimugu, flanked by two female EFCC officers, arrived at the court at approximately 11:35 a.m.

Justice Inyang Ekwo had on Monday directed Achimugu—who was alleged to have fled the country—to report to the EFCC by 12 noon on Tuesday. The judge further ordered the commission to produce her in court the following day.

Sources say Achimugu was apprehended by EFCC operatives at the airport around 5:00 a.m. upon her return to Nigeria and subsequently taken into custody.

While in detention, she reportedly declared a hunger strike.
