Veteran Filipino actress and National Artist Nora Aunor has died. She was 71.
Her daughter, Lotlot de Leon, confirmed the news in an Instagram post on Wednesday, April 16. She did not disclose the cause of death.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, celebrated television and movie actress, and a true National Artist of the Philippines, Nora Aunor,” the statement read. “Funeral service details will follow. We thank everyone for their support and ask for continued prayers during this time of mourning.”
Aunor rose to fame in the 1960s as a singer before becoming one of the country’s most respected actresses. In 2022, she was named a National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, the highest recognition given to Filipino artists.
