A 14-year-old boy, Okonkwo Obinna Emmanuel, has reportedly died from a head injury sustained while testing a bulletproof charm in Iyamu village, Illushi community, Ubiaja, Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The tragic incident occurred on April 2, 2025, and was reported to the police by the boy’s elder brother, Okonkwo Onyenbuchi.
According to a source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the charm was allegedly administered by a self-proclaimed native doctor, Amechi Edozunor, in collaboration with one Kelvin Ugru. The charm was intended to make the boy “invulnerable to bottles.”
However, in an attempt to prove the charm’s efficacy, the suspects reportedly broke a bottle on the boy’s head, resulting in a severe injury. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries on April 5, 2025.
The boy’s body has been deposited in the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
The source further revealed that both suspects have been arrested and are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Moses Yamu, said, “Just give me some minutes; I will get back to you.” However, as of the time of filing this report, he had not provided further updates.
