…Clark’s Family Condemns FCT Minister’s Disparaging Remarks on Late Elder Statesman
The Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) youth leadership has raised concerns over the growing political crisis allegedly fueled by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, warning that his divisive politics could jeopardize President Bola Tinubu’s chances of re-election in 2027.
At a press briefing in Abuja over the weekend, the youth leaders issued a strong ultimatum, demanding that Wike apologize for his repeated verbal attacks on Niger Delta elders and stakeholders. They further urged President Tinubu to take decisive action by removing Wike from office before he inflicts irreversible damage on the administration’s credibility in the South-South region.
Led by National Youth Leader Don Ben Donyegha, Assistant National Youth Leader Mathew Digi, and National Coordinator for Youth Affairs Prince Oleh Victor, the PANDEF youth leaders accused Wike of fostering division and alienating key regional figures. They condemned his confrontational style, highlighting his history of belittling traditional rulers, elder statesmen, and political allies who once supported his rise to power.
Meanwhile, the family of the late Edwin Clark has strongly criticized Wike for making disparaging remarks about the revered elder statesman, who recently passed away.
In a statement signed by Prof. C. Clark on behalf of the family and released in Asaba, the Clarks expressed disappointment that Wike chose to disrespect the late sage even in death for political gains.
“Haba! What kind of politics is this that he could not even allow the family to mourn their father or let Pa Clark rest in peace? This is unacceptable and in bad taste,” the statement read.
The family lamented that in African culture, the deceased—especially someone of Pa Clark’s stature—should be accorded respect, as demonstrated by thousands who have paid their condolences.
“But not Wike! The world has now seen his brand of bitter, miserable politics. As Pa Clark himself once said, Wike is dancing naked,” the statement continued.
Calling on well-meaning individuals to intervene and caution Wike, the family expressed deep concern over his pattern of disrespect and indiscretion, warning that such behavior raises questions about what he might say or do next.
